Roses transformed

This is a photo that's been sitting in my archives for ages, I didn't like the dark wood I had shot against so it had been rejected. This afternoon I had a bit of time to play and managed, quite easily too,  to disguise the darkness. It's inspired me, so hope it might inspire you too!
So here's how I did it...

Oxford Parchment @ Hard Light 75%
Peach blush @ Screen 100% Masked as desired from the focus areas
Aquarius @ Hard light 52% masked as above
Brushed Rose @ overlay 8% this just added a little warmth
Curves and levels adjustments to tweak tone
And voila! An image transformed!

Sweetheart

A recipe for this one was requested by Debbie over at flickr so I thought I'd do a quick blog entry for anyone else interested.
The roses are Cecile Brunner commonly known as sweetheart roses, I love their tiny perfect buds and blooms. I took many photos of them yesterday but this one was my favourite of the bunch.

Archival Canvas @ Soft light 68%
Mulberry Silk @ Screen 25% removed slightly from the focus flower
Peach Blush@ hard light 36% desaturated and lightened slightly using a hue saturation adjustment
Peach Blush @ Soft light 24%

Archival canvas and Peach blush are from Tex Box 2, Mulberry silk from the painterly set.

New Dawn

One from a while back when my roses were in full bloom, there are still some late season flowers but summer is gone for another year.
The soft pink of the New Dawn rose and a blue sponge-ware jug are a great combination in my eyes!
I decided to process this softly...I couldn't really do anything else.
Archival Canvas @ Soft light 68%
Peach Blush@ Hard Light 73 % desaturated slightly
Peach blush @ Colour Burn 40% with some of the texture removed from the focus flowers
Dark Blue colour layer @ Exclusion 70%
Curves layer to tweak tone etc.

Gently

More roses from my mothers garden, she has inherited lots of standard roses with trunks like small trees! I'm not a big fan of that style of rose bush myself but can see the advantages, you don't have to bend over to smell them and they're much easier to weed around, you can also cram more into your garden.

Anyway, this was processed as follows.
Sail cloth@ Hard light 75% blurred with a gaussian blur
Concorde @screen 46% with it's saturation increased using a hue saturation adjustment as mentioned in my previous tutorial.
Dark blue colour layer @ exclusion 20%
Purple colour layer @ overlay 30%
Then the overall tone was tweaked with curves and hue saturation adjustment layers

I never know what to write about my flower photos here, landscapes are much easier to write about :-)
So today you'll just get the processing recipe.
I decided on the soft treatment on these roses, I did have more textures to start with, archival canvas and apple blush etc but I decided I liked it better soft and pastel.

I started with a levels adjustment to brighten the image a little.
Then I added
Peach Blush @ Overlay 25%
Rainbow trout @ Soft Light 59 %
0c0237 colour layer @ Exclusion 100%
fcf8dd colour layer @ Overlay 40%
f8daa6 colour layer @ overlay 37 %

Pastels

More lavender, this time with the beautiful pink blooms of New Dawn rose in the background. New Dawn is a particularly vigorous rose which is smothered in soft pink flowers when it's in full bloom.

This leant itself to soft processing so I tried out a new combo of textures this time.
Ordinance Map @ Soft light 68 %
Rainbow Trout @ hard light 63 % (both this layer and the previous one had a tiny amount of texture removed from the focus flowers)
I finished with some colour layers.
Pink @ soft light 23 %
aqua @ overlay 11 %
Lemon @ overlay 24 %
These three colour overlays were selected (after much experimentation) because they complimented my photo, a different photo and I'd probably have used different colours and opacities.
